Leading Lines
This photo is a good example of photo composition using leading lines. The dominant leading line of the railroad track helps to organize and add structure to the photo.
Subject and Background
This photo displays not only subject and background but also simplicity. Using the beach as a background helps to keep focus on the subject because the background is not too distracting. Not only does this photo display simplicity but also the rule of thirds. The subject is aligned along the outside "grid line" and at a point of interest. The rule of thirds will be described more in detail with the following picture.
Rule of thirds
This photo shows the rule of thirds. Rule of thirds is the basis for well balanced and interesting shots. If you break this photo into a grid with 3 columns and 3 rows like a tic tac toe board. This grid will give you four important parts of the image that you should place points of interest and gives you four lines that are guides for elements in your photo. In this photo the sun and the rocks are placed on the outside lines of the grid in order to create focal points in the image.
All of the photos posted on my blog are JPEG images and should only be used on the web. The are good for the web because they compress larger files when quality is not an issue. JPEGs store full color information at 24 bits per pixel and grayscale at 8 bits per pixel. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group and are used for photographs or naturalistic artwork. For more information on file formats look at my website about file formats, it discusses JPEG, GIF, Bitmap, and vector images. Graphics on the web

Examples of Graphic Design Principles
This is a good example of dominance used in graphic design. The words No More War are the dominant feature of the article and attract the readers attention. The sub-dominant feature is the blue writing and the sub ordinate feature is the article itself.
This is a good example of symmetrical balance used in graphic design. Both sides of the movie poster contain the same layout and having two actors in the middle of the poster helps to create a symmetrical layout. The actors also make a horizontal symmetry line.
